Gettin Crafty, and Pinny...

Okay, since learning how to "pin" onto Pinterest via my iPad, I am trying out all sorts of different things to help me create cool pins and capture some of the stuff that does actually get done around this house. So I am trying out this neat-o new app called Corkulous. It allows me to create a how-to in one photo... I have been trying to find an easy way to perfect this chore... So here goes. My first attempt at it is this project I took on last weekend. I was tired of looking at the primary colored toy bins in the playroom and came across cool train fabric I hated not using so I put two and two together and got ... really sticky. P.S. spray glue is über sticky. Ooh... This iPad makes the dots over the u in über!! Too neat. Anywho, here it is.

P.P.S... Stay tuned for a culinary delight... er... well.... Some good food. Tomorrow is
Joel's birthday so we are doing baked stuffed French toast for breakfast ... In the fridge as we speak... And a chocolate mousse cake will follow a bountiful steak dinner. Commence salivation :-).

Breakfast Birdsnests

Okay so I have
Discovered I am a bit addicted to Pinterest. I have found inspiration, lots of laughs, amazing ideas and I have come across so many terrific blogs that I am feeling like a giant slacker for ignoring mine for so long. So now I am finally able to start creating pins instead of just running off with other peoples keen ideas and tacking them to my own boards. One great thing that has happened with this idea treasure trove is that I find great ideas and add my own spin. And here is my latest spin ... I found a great recipe for these Birdsnests made with hash browns and bacon. I decided to use what I had on hand, super tasty breakfast sausage! So here's what we did. I used frozen (thawed) hash browns - I squeezed out as much liquid as I could using paper towels because we like really crisp hash browns. I also seasoned the hash browns with salt, pepper and a bit of cumin. I can think of a million different ways to season this. Then I smushed the hash browns into the a greased muffin tin to create "nests". It is important to reallllly grease these tins, I didn't do a good enough job of it and was forced into a soaking situation that made me super annoyed :-/. Anywho .... I browned up some onion and garlic and added the sausage. Once browned and crumbly I added them into the nests. Next, I mixed up about 8 eggs with a little milk, salt and pepper, with a bit of cheese... Eh, a good amount of cheese... And then I poured this mix into each cup. I'm a bit of a nerd and I separated the whites from the yolks and whipped the whites separately until good and frothy, then folded them into the yolks/cheese/seasoning. This just made the egg mixture lighter and allowed them to rise more.
I am sure the recipe will work fine without separating :-). I baked in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until perfectly risen and a toothpick comes out clean. The boys LOVED this and I can imagine endless mixins to to create some great Birdsnests. So there you have it. I have finally updated my blog and officially used my iPad to create this. Not sure how it will all look... But I am working on becoming more organized with all of my social networking and I think this is a good first step. Enjoy!
