Growing Up

First Day of First Grade 2009

Six years ago, I can remember folding clothes so tiny it was hard to imagine a human could fit into them. Vividly, I can recall the feeling I had when I realized that the puny little guys that fit into these premie onsies would one day be able to speak. Then they'd be off to school. The thought vanished, probably wisked out of my mind by a hungry cry. Six years later, I sit with clothes in hand again. As I sort shirts that are too small, pants that are too short, and books that are too "babyish", I imagine the day that they'll be walking to school on their own or asking to borrow the car. The years have sped by and I am left with a giant bag filled with too small clothes and an amazing bank of memories. The morning of the first day of first grade offered the perfect opportunity to make more of those priceless memories. Max was quite proud that he didn't need to be coaxed from his bed. He said, "see mommy .. I got up first, that's what big boys do." After digging the desired shoes from the closet, Max proudly declares, "Mommy, I put everything back in the closet and didn't make a mess ... cuz that's what 1st graders do!" They buckled their belts, tied their shoes ... all by themselves. Where did the time go? I suppose I'm only a year or so from no kisses at drop-off, huh? Life flits by so quickly so I keep trying to remind myself to let these sweet moments soak in. They are so yummy!

OK, I know this was the first post in a billion years and I have tons to share so I promise to keep this up. :-) Wishing you all big hugs and tasty kisses ;-)
